The Habitat ReStore mission is to generate revenue through the sale of donated, reclaimed and purchased building materials, appliances, furniture and tools to support the activities of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Newark.

ReStore Cashier (Full-Time and Part-Time positions available)

Location: Fairfield, NJ

STATUS:
Full-Time: Health benefits, 403(B), PTO and more
Part-Time: Non-Exempt; 10-25 / hours per week.
Pay: $16/hr
Start Date: immediate
Hours: Store is open Tuesday-Saturday 10 am – 6 pm (closed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Day)

Primary Responsibilities:
The ReStore Customer Service / Cashier position is responsible for assisting customers and providing the ultimate in customer service, serving as ambassadors for Habitat. They are the first and last smiling faces customers see as they enter and leave the store. They are friendly and energetic. They must represent Habitat favorably within the community, develop and maintain good relationship with customers, donors, volunteers and partners. Attitude is key.

This position requires moderate supervision and has no supervisory responsibility.

SPECIFIC DUTIES (90%):

Primary role is to serve as a cashier to accurately ring up purchases

  • Welcome customers / donors as they enter the ReStore.
  • Opening and closing procedures for the cash register.
  • Accurately ringing up customer transactions on the register, including handling cash and credit card transactions.
  • Issuing receipts; hold tags; sold tags and appliance warranties as needed.
  • Handle all customer credit card information and sales data / donor information confidentially.
  • Assisting customers by answering questions and enhancing their shopping experience.
  • Answer incoming phone calls and answering questions.
  • Help maintain cleanliness and safety of the sales floor and cashier work areas.
  • Resolve customer complaints and ask for assistance as needed.
  • Successfully completing daily tasks at the ReStore.

OTHER DUTIES (10%):

  • Processing of materials-including cleaning and pricing, stocking product, arranging merchandise aesthetically.
  • Address potential hazards to staff, customers or donors in an expedient manner.
  • Able to react to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be able to effectively communicate fluently in English.
  • Handling cash, basic math, counting skills, calculator use.
  • Must have knowledge of basic computer skills.
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs and not allergic or bothered by cleaning product scents.
  • Must be able to work weekends.
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent GED.
  • Will be required to successfully pass a background check.
  • Communication skills and interpersonal skills are important for dealing with customers as well as fellow staff members.

ReStore Driver/ Mover/ Donations Ambassador

STATUS: Regular Full Time – Non-Exempt; 35-40 / hours per week.

MUST HAVE A CLEAN DRIVING RECORD

Pay: $20.00 an hour , Health insurance available after 90 days.

Reports To: ReStore Manager

Our Mission Statement: The Habitat ReStore Mission is to generate revenue through the sale of donated, reclaimed and purchased materials, appliances, furniture and tools to support the activities of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Newark.

Principal Duties:

  • Operate donation trucks in a safe, lawful, and courteous manner.
    Maintain cleanliness of trucks interior and exterior (cab/daily; exterior/weekly).
  • Regular maintenance checks to always ensure readiness of truck and equipment including reporting any maintenance concerns to supervisor.
  • Daily trucks safety checks to ensure the truck is safe to be on the road.
  • Regular and as needed communication with Donations Coordinator.
  • Loading/unloading of donations in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Work with ReStore managers and back-room supervisor to ensure all donations stay together and do not get separated.
  • Placing and securing loads as trained.
    Professional and courteous interaction with donors including utmost care and concern for personal property.
  • Assist with donation processing, recycling, and store needs when not assigned to truck.
  • Able to train for and pass forklift training course.
  • Drivers must be eligible to be added to Habitat vehicle insurance. This requires at least 5 years of driving experience and a favorable driving record.

Other Duties:

  • Communicate mission of Habitat of Greater Newark.
  • Assist with Habitat of Greater Newark special events as needed.
  • Comply with all policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned by Director of Donation Services & Procurement or Store Manager.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time, to move and handle boxes of merchandise, furniture, and fixtures over varied terrain including stairs and through doorways, entails lifting at least 75 pounds, assisted. Must be able to stoop or kneel to properly move / merchandise donated or purchased product. Must be able to climb a ladder to reach storage shelves / rug racks.
  • Must be able to maintain awareness of surroundings at all times.
  • Ability to understand and communicate in English; other languages are a plus.
  • Ability to work varied hours/days, including nights and weekends, as needed.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test and random drug testing as selected.
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time.
    Must be able to properly move and merchandise donated or purchased product in weights listed above.
  • Must be able to get in and out of an 18-foot box truck.

Other Requirements:

Adhere to schedule, show initiative, honest, drug free, positive attitude, customer service oriented, must have dependable transportation to work.
