Newark, NJ (April 6, 2009 For immediate
release). Habitat for Humanity Newark announces their second annual
Raising Roofs Gala scheduled for Thursday May 28, 2009 at 6 PM at
the Wilshire Grand Hotel, 350 Pleasant Valley Way in West Orange,
NJ.
This event is a major fund raiser that helps support Habitat
Newark’s mission of building affordable homes with low income
families in Essex County New Jersey. In the past 20 years HFH
Newark, with the support of thousands of volunteers and donors, has
built 70 houses in the Central and West Wards of Newark and is now
branching out to other parts of Newark and to West Orange. Habitat
Newark offers hard working low income families a hand up to decent
living conditions.
This year’s event will honor PSE&G (http://pseg.com)
as the Corporate Partner of the Year and the United Way of Essex and
West Hudson (http://www.uwewh.org)
as the Foundation Partner of the Year. Prospect Presbyterian Church
of Maplewood will be saluted as the Faith Community Partner of the
Year and two Habitat Homeowners, Shirley Thomas and Donna Thompson
will be cited as Habitat Homeowners of the Year.
This years Volunteer of the Year award will honor the HFHN
Carpenters Club. They are a group of hardworking volunteers who work
regularly (many on Wednesdays) doing a variety of construction
projects. This group, for many years, has been the backbone of the
volunteer forces building our houses. Both men and women, they come
from throughout New Jersey and provide much needed expertise and
hard work to the organization.
Master of ceremonies for the event will be Steve Adubato Jr. who
enjoys a distinguished career as a broadcaster, author, university
professor and motivational speaker. Steve is a trainer and coach of
communication and leadership skills. Steve currently anchors two
Channel Thirteen/WNET (PBS) broadcasts — Caucus: New Jersey and
Inside Trenton. (More on Adubato at
