One
needs only to scan the headlines of this month's Toolbox to see the
hard work that's going on both in front of and behind the scenes at
Habitat Newark. Volunteers, staff and sponsors alike keep coming
together to move Habitat forward in our mission.
The ground breaking for Abraham House II in Irvington was held on
May 4th and the enthusiasm was palpable. TD Ameritrade corporate
executives and employees were on hand, as well as representatives of
the law firm of LeClair Ryan, to help celebrate what their partial
sponsorship helped to get underway. Mayor Wayne Smith stopped by to
lend municipal support. A lucky hardworking family will soon live on
a nice tree shaded street in Irvington in a house they have helped
build and will own.
The Cars for Homes New Jersey Road Trip brought together the Newark,
Morris, Bergen, and Paterson Habitat chapters to help raise
awareness of our cars for homes program. The five day event finished
Saturday at the Morris County Habitat ReStore, where you can donate
or buy building supplies, components and furniture. You can learn
more at; http://www.morrishabitat.org/restore/
Meanwhile back in West Orange our Women Build group was busy
celebrating Women Build day with a whole
crew celebrating and working hard on our two family house in West
Orange. This group also had a special pot luck luncheon for the
occasion.
Committee members and volunteers are hard at work planning the
annual golf outing to be held on June 27th at the Glen Ridge Country
Club. To join the fun check this newsletter.
No, it's never dull at Habitat, Newark and there are always things
to be done. We fundraise, we promote, we organize, and we plan. We
do all these things so that we can build - so that one more
hard-working family can share in the dream of home ownership, and so
that communities can come together and thrive.
The need for affordable housing never stops, so the work at Habitat,
Newark never stops either. If you want to get involved please call
me at 973-624-3330.
