“My husband and I are from West Africa; we always considered homeownership in America as a dream that only others can achieve. I had never slept in a room that I could call my own; it was a living situation that I dreaded for my own children. I want my children and all children to believe in their dreams and know they always have somewhere safe to rest their heads at night.

But, because of Habitat for Humanity Newark, I feel are our world has changed for the good. In April 2014, we moved into our very own home. We are so very grateful to the countless donors who helped make this happened. Patrick, my husband, worked tirelessly alongside countless volunteers who were just as devoted and invested in our home as we are. Their pride and dedication lives inside the framework of our house and in the hearts of our family.

As a grade school teacher in Irvington, my goal is for my students to learn in a safe environment, and that begins in the home. I am a strong advocate for the children of Essex County and want to ensure that other families’ dreams do not lay waiting in the wings of life.”
