How We Work

Through volunteer work and tax-deductible donations, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Newark has been building decent, affordable homes with the help of the Partner Families for over 30 years. Habitat homes are sold to Partner Families and Habitat of Greater Newark provides an affordable mortgage. Habitat of Greater Newark volunteers and donors have made decent, affordable housing a reality for nearly 113 families.

Habitat Welcomes All Volunteers

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Newark has an open-door policy: All who believe that everyone needs a decent, affordable place to live are welcome to help with the work, regardless of race, religion, age, gender, political views or any of the other distinctions that too often divide people.

Habitat of Greater Newark welcomes volunteers and supporters from all backgrounds and also serves people in need of decent housing regardless of race or religion. Sign up as an individual, family, faith-based group, school group, civic organization, and/or corporate team. More information about volunteering.

We Tithe To Support Habitat's Work Around The World

  • Habitat of Greater Newark gives a portion of all our donations to Habitat International’s Tithe Program, which encourages Habitat partners to donate a tenth of what they raise in support of building homes in developing countries, like Haiti.

Non-Proselytizing policy

Habitat for Humanity International and its affiliated organizations (including Habitat of Greater Newark) will not proselytize. Nor will HFH work with entities or individuals who insist on proselytizing as a part of their work with HFH. This means that HFH will not offer assistance on the expressed or implied condition that people must adhere to or convert to a particular faith or listen and respond to the messaging designed to induce conversion to a particular faith.

Your support—just $20 or any amount you can afford—helps a Northern New Jersey family build a decent place to call home.
