Habitat for Humanity of Greater Newark
Habitat for Humanity of Greater Newark has been building homes in Essex, Hudson, and Union Counties since 1986 and has been able to help over 113 families become home owners in our community.
Ervin Ealy’s Critical Repair Project
Lifelong Newark resident Irving Ealy is a disabled senior and amputee who was in urgent need of critical home repairs to live safely and independently. With support from the Neighborhood Revitalization Tax Credit (NRTC), Lowe’s Builds, and the Regional Foundation, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Newark modified his first-floor bathroom for accessibility and converted his living room into a primary bedroom. These repairs have helped Mr. Ealy regain stability and dignity in the home he’s lived in for nearly two decades.
Affordable Home Build in Orange, NJ
Located in the heart of Orange, New Jersey, 540 Liberty Street is an active Habitat Greater Newark project that will soon become a fully renovated, affordable home for a deserving family. This transformation—inside and out—will help revitalize the neighborhood and provide lasting stability to the Orange community. Thanks to the dedication of our volunteers and the expert leadership of Construction Manager Darian Harris and Site Coordinator Dan Gallinger, the project has made significant progress and is well on its way to becoming a place a family can proudly call home.
Our projects include not only homebuilding but also our Critical Repair and Healthy Homes Initiative and our Neighborhood Revitalization Program.
Through our Critical Repair and Healthy Homes Initiative, we will also perform repair work such as providing rehabilitation, home repairs and home preservation. Through repairs such as mold and asbestos remediation, energy-conserving improvements, and the addition of aging-in-place functionality, Habitat of Greater Newark works to keep low income families, seniors, and veterans in their homes.
